Lunch shaming is unjust because it utilizes humiliating and stigmatizing tactics to target children for issues they have no control over thereby instilling trauma without actually resolving the issues of debt and families inability to afford school lunch. Policy Claim School boards and government officials should find alternatives to lunch-shaming practices in order to collect lunch debt such as requiring eligibility forms for free lunch programs be completed prior to the first day of school, setting up systems to make paying for meals more convenient for parents, and improving debt notification systems.
